Just wishing I had an (old-fashioned English) cottage...
More and more I absolutely love looking at design blogs for inspiration and pretty things. It makes me look forward to a time when I'll have my own place to make home! And with the summer weather I dream that perhaps I can have a cottage... or at least, perhaps fashion my own home with a cozy, cottage feeling. Maybe.

These are a few of my favourite images that I've saved from the blogs Poppytalk and Design Sponge. I hope they have you thinking happy summer thoughts!

I love the crisp white with the bright colours, and with the quaint flowers in the vase — both fun & modern and sweet & vintage.

Oh, the quilt! Nothing says "cottage cozy" like quilts. This reminds me of a 21st century-take on the 19th-century.

I love adding a fabric canopy to outdoor spaces.

This is a little too pink and girly for my taste for my permanent bedroom, but I think this would make an adorable cottage bedroom.

I can't help but think of Jane Austen sitting down to write, like in "Becoming Jane" or "Miss Austen Regrets."

How divine, out there by the water! And the canopy...

I love the 19th-century feel of the blue china plates, and how they are used as wall artwork. It's also a punch of colour without being too dramatic or modern.

From the book "At Home with Country" by Christina Strutt (via Design Sponge)

I just love the 19th-century feel to this bathroom! I think it's the artwork, but I also love the crisp white walls.

Oh, I think this staircase is to die for. Especially in the white, it looks like lace. I wish I could have this in my home or cottage (although I don't do well with spiral staircases, especially see-through ones, so it's probably for the best).

So pretty! I keep on looking at the pictures on the blog and going "ooh, I'd love to do that, or that, or that..." I especially like the wallpaper in the second-to-last picture - though wallpaper can be expensive. :/ I'm rather fond of nifty design ideas that don't cost too much...!

Yeah, I agree — I love the looks that don't scream "money" although I think some of these ideas cost more then one would think. I guess that's when you splurge on something (like wallpaper) and spend thriftily on other things. I love re-purposed furniture, though, too.

These are some lovely designs! My favorite is ... oh gosh, I don't think I can pick a favorite. I like something from every picture!

Thanks for sharing these with us, Heather. :)
