More on "The Cranford Chronicles" + pictures
First, here's summary of the miniseries, from The BBC:

Based on three Elizabeth Gaskell novels: Cranford, My Lady Ludlow and Mr Harrison's Confessions, this witty and poignant story follows the small absurdities and major tragedies in the lives of the people of Cranford during one extraordinary year.

Cranford in the 1840s is a small Cheshire market town on the cusp of change. The railway is pushing its way relentlessly towards the town from Manchester, bringing fears of migrant workers and the breakdown of law and order.

The arrival of handsome new doctor, Frank Harrison (Simon Woods) from London causes a stir; not only because of his revolutionary medical methods, but also because of the effect he has on many of the ladies' hearts in the town.

Judi Dench plays Miss Matty Jenkyns, whose hopes and rebellious spirit are crushed when she was forced as a young woman to give up Mr Holbrook (Michael Gambon), the man she loved.

And here are some pictures (with lots more here):

"Simon Woods as the handsome Doctor Frank Harrison"

This is like hand and cravat "porn" (for lack of a better word) put together, haha.

I'm pretty sure this is Greg Wise, playing Lord Charles Maulver.

He's looking pretty snazzy and gentleman-like.

And this is Andrew Buchan, who played St. John Rivers in 2006's Jane Eyre and he was also in the TV show Party Animals.

It's not hard to see who I like the best, eh? I can't wait to see Simon Woods in another [19th century] period drama. :)

Greg Wise is looking old, but he's looking good nonetheless.

The colouring in your icon is super duper pretty.

I'm so excited about this!

He is looking old, but still handsome. :)

Thanks! I've been having a hard time making icons on this laptop, but it's finally starting to work out.

Me too — I can't wait!

Mm, Simon Woods is pretty.
And Michael Gambon is awesome.
The more I hear about this adaptation, the more I want to see it.
Greg Wise is looking older, but he's quite well preserved. Andrew Buchan looks better with dark hair.
Oh, to live in Wiltshire (where they're filming...)!

That would be very cool to see them filming! But you're in England, so you're not too far away, heehee. I, on the other hand, am stuck on the other side of the Atlantic...

I'm not in England yet, sadly!

Yes, but I rather doubt whether I shall be able to take a day excursion to Wiltshire from London wher we'll be. And unfortunately it also seems highly unlikely that we'll travel to Wales via Wiltshire... :(

Ah well.

Oops, sorry — for some reason I thought you were in England! That's too bad you won't be able too see them. Oh, well... By the time I get to England, they'll be showing it on TV, I think. ;)

No worries, if you thought I was English I'll take that as a compliment! :D

Are you traveling to England in the near future? Why's that? (if you don't mind me asking!)

I'll be going this fall for six months for school! I'll be going to Capernwray, which is in Lancaster (north of Manchester). I'll have to plan out what I want to see and what I can fit in.

Are you going over there for a trip?

Lucky you! I would have LOVED to have done an exchange to England when I was at school. Hpe you have an AWESOME time. If you're in Manchester you must go to Haworth, it's not too far from there. And York if you can make it and you've got any interest in things historical. IMDB has a filming location search that you could enter Manchester/Lancaster into...
[I went to England for a literary themed tour a while back, hence the bias of my suggestions.]

Sort of. My choir, TOWER New Zealand Youth Choir is travelling through England, Wales, Canada and Spain competing and performing.

I would love to go on a literary-themed adventure! Those are the kinds of sites I want to visit when I'm there, if I can. Especially anything related to Jane Austen. Thanks for the suggestions!

Wow, that's quite a broad list of places to tour, especially with Canada — it's not exactly close to Europe. ;)

No worries, let me know if you want any more! You might like go to Hay-on-Wye if you're up North, since it's a town of bookshops!

Yes, it is...I guess it's determined by the festivals and competitions we're attending. Last time they went to Eastern Europe.

Nope, I'm afraid I don't recognize him...
I think I heard that it was airing this fall (which surprised me), but all I can find out is that they say they were filming in April 2007. I think that's a good sign — it should air within the next year, right?

I browsed the same site last night - it caused so much excitement within me that I did not fall asleep until four in the morning... Lol.

I had to laugh about the comment that Greg Wise looked "older but well-preserved". He has a few grey strands, but they have dyed his sideburns (are those even real?) for the series. :D I have to agree, though, that compared to the boyish face of Simon Woods he looks considerably older...and most of you probably have not seen him since his role of Willoughby. ;)

Your new Simon Woods/Dr. Harrison icon above is wonderful! Great colouring! Hehehe, I think, I will have to make a snazzy Greg Wise icon now.

I think I've only seen Greg Wise in S&S, so he is looking considerably older (but no less handsome!)

Thank you! I just had to make icons when I saw those pictures of Simon Woods.

BTW, I remember you had made a large gallery of Simon Woods/Bingley pictures, and I thougt I had bookmarked it, but now I can't find it. Is it still up?

I must say that however handsome Mr Woods or Mr Feild may be, they simply do not have the same effect on me like Mr Wise. While I have developed a (fangirl-)crush on the former, I have lost my (fangirl-)heart to the latter. ;)

*cough*Make some more!*cough*

Sadly, I "had to" delete it two days ago. I had some issues with somebody linking to it from a site I would never visit voluntarily. :( Is there anything special you are searching for? I will gladly zip and upload anything for you! :)

Hm, I wasn't looking for anything specifically, I just remember that you had so many, and lots that I don't think I'd seen before. Would it be too much trouble to zip all of them? I don't remember how many there were, so please don't go through a lot of trouble on my account!!

It won't be a problem at all. I'll see what I can scrap together and upload it for you tomorrow night. :) My best friend is going to get married this summer and I spent all day driving from one city to the next in search for a dress to wear. I am exhausted now. :)
