Just a little collection for fun... I always like their trailers.

Tess of the D'Urbervilles )

Sense & Sensibility )

Jane Eyre )

And here are some DVD trailers, the first I'd never seen before:

Cranford )

Sense & Sensibility )

Bleak House

Unfortunately, that's all I could find. I've never seen an actual trailer for North and South — not on any DVDs or anything, though I've seen ads for just about everything else. (Wives & Daughters, Daniel Deronda, The Way We Live Now, He Knew He Was Right and Bleak House. Ah, well...

I've got a new layout over here!

[info]ingenu0us [info]ingenu0us [info]ingenu0us

Based on my lovely icon by [info]smelltheflowers. :) I was getting tired of the black and white layout. It took me awhile to get all the colours changed. (Layout coding by [info]leyslie.) Also, be sure to check out my brand-spankin'-new profile layout. I kept the "Jane Eyre" pic but changed the colours — and added some cute graphics, heehee. It all took awhile, so I'm showing it off now.

Last night on TV there was another "Marple Mystery." Normally I wouldn't be that interested, but it looked like Sophia Myles was in it (and Paul McGann) but it turned out to be a different one. With Ruth Wilson! I taped it, 'cause I have to watch more Ruth Wilson. :D

And I can't wait 'til my Jane Eyre DVD comes! It was a birthday gift. It's released tomorrow...

And the Oscars weren't all that interesting, except for Ellen Degeneres as the host. :P Last year I was rooting for Pride & Prejudice and Reese Witherspoon. This year... well, I'm tired of hearing about Dreamgirls at any rate. And I really wanted Peter O'Toole to win, but no. :( It was all the same winners. Kind of boring.

The results are in. Yay! All of my favourite leading men are on the list! David Tennant, Jonas Armstrong, Toby Stephens, and even Richard Armitage! Both Robin Hood and Jane Eyre are in every category, but it's Doctor Who that has swept everything else away — for the second year in a row! I'm disappinted, because as much as I like Doctor Who, I love Robin Hood the most. And then Jane Eyre. But I'm happy that David Tennant won for best actor! I voted for him.

And Guy's proposal scene made it on the "Favourite Moment" list! So it's fifth, but at least it made it! That's what I voted for. (Being Canadian, I'm probably not supposed to, but... ;P)

Hopefully, with Robin Hood being so popular, it could air on Canadian TV... sometime. Or at least the DVDs should be released. Then again, I'm having a hard time trying to see all of Doctor Who — it's so sporadic. At least there's a "new" episode on tonight. (New as in the next episode from season two that I haven't seen).

Other honourable mentions include Ruth Wilson and Lucy Griffiths as runners-up in the "Best Actress" category.

I have been waiting for these results for far too long. I think it proves how bored I've been lately.

First, [info]netherfield_x now has over 100 members. Yay. :)

I think I need to make a Robin Hood fanlisting next. The one for the actualy TV show is already taken (though it's still not up, argh) so I think I'd like to amke one for Robin and Marian. I'm just not sure which category to apply under. I guess it would be best to just focus on 2006 TV version, so under TV Show relationships.

I still haven't done much for getting ready for Christmas. We still need to get our Christmas tree up!

Oh, the PBS Masterpiece Theatre has been updated. "The Virgin Queen" is playing Jan. 7th & 14th, so I guess "Jane Eyre" will be at te end of the month. Darn. I just want the DVD to come out!

Does anyone have any idea how the Robin Hood DVDs will be released in North America? 'Cause I know the Doctor Who seasons are split up. I'd much rather get the whole Robin Hood season together like other shows, but I hope it's not $140 Canadian! (I saw Doctor Who Season 1 for that much; it's ridiculous!)

ETA: NOOOOOOOOOOO! Someone's already signed up for Robin & Marian. :'( And of course now that's it's taken, I want it even more.

ETA: I ended up applying for the Marian character fanlisting, so hopefully that will work out. Also — and this is a bit mean, but — the Robin Hood TV Show has been on the "upcoming" list too long, so it might be available if it's not finished by Dec. 13th. I hope I can get it... (On another note, I applied for the Gregory Peck fanlisting ages ago, and still haven't gotten a reply, but oh well. I think that category is being cleaned out of "troubles" first.)

Happy Birthday, another_redheadJessica!

I hope you've had a wonderful day and may the year ahead be filled with blessings! I hope you get lots of presents and cake, and fun times with family and friends. God bless on your special day, dear! :D

In other news, I've started a new fanlisting! For none other than the new Jane Eyre miniseries — click here to visit it. There's not much there yet, but I'll add more fun stuff soon. I'm also figuring out more and more with CSS layouts, etc. However, I went back to doing the members list manually, as PHP Fanbase has still not been re-released and I really don't lihe Enthusiast, which is the only other option. (It is so complicated, and I hate the password feature. As someone who regularly signs up for fanlistings, it has been way more trouble than it's worth!)

In other news, I bought myself the 10 anniversary BBC P&P DVD. (Yikes, lots of initials!) It was driving me crazy, trying to find the best price and flip-flopping about whether I should get it or not, so when I saw it in the store at the lowest price I'd seen it at (nothign spectacular, but good) I just got it. Then it turns out my mom had already bought it for me for Christmas. Ironically, she hasn't done much Christmas shopping at all. But I'd already opened mine, so... Anyway, I've watched all six eisodes and special features and I'm still enjoying the special "making of" book. I'd forgotten how wonderful it is! Definitely captures Austen's novel, and different than the movie. I like both, but I'm almost leaning more toward miniseries at the moment. Unfathomable! :P

And here is such a great music video I found via YouTube. It 1995 P&P to a 1950s tune! &c. )

And whew, today was draining at the daycare. I've got a little bit of a cold, so I've been tired anyway, but today was a day where the kids were acting up. It's usually the same kid(s), too, with the same things... They're all pretty good, though, so can't complain. Plus they are all adorable, too! But I am glad it's the weekend.

Veronica Mars is great. (Paraphrasing):
(Veronica wants to invite Parker bowling with them so she's not alone.)
Logan: How very Emma.
Veronica: Was that a Jane Austen reference? It's official, the end of the world is upon us.

That, and Summer's dad (on "The O.C.") mentioning that he's taking the job in Seattle, Washington, and working at a "quirky" little hospital called Seattle Grace. Ha.

I just found this tonight, and thought I'd share. :) It's the song in the trailer for the recent Jane Eyre miniseries. You can watch the trailer at YouTube here. And there's another one here, and here.

The song is called, "You Never Know" by Goldfrapp. www.sendspace.com/file/gzm2rm

Also, here's a fan video of Jane Eyre featuring the song.

Enjoy. :D

So, what do you think? Is this the Jane Eyre?

Hmmm. I was going to do my own review of Jane Eyre, but as there's already been so many, and mine was turning more into "what was different from the book that I didn't quite like" so... well, here's a (not-so) condensed version, mostly of episode four. &c. )

That still turned into a what-was-different-from-the-book review, but in case I sound too negative:
I loved the series! It was beautiful and passionate and heartwrenching and I can't wait for the DVD.

I have a lot to say, things that are more real life and not so superficial, but I don't have the energy to delve into deep journalling. Instead, I'll just post a couple several notes:

  • Veronica Mars is airing on a channel that I get!!! I GET TO WATCH VERONICA MARS ON TV EVERY WEEK!! No more downloading for me. :D

  • Another channel is now going to be airing Doctor Who! I've heard so much about this show — er, well, I've at least seen how popular it is, and my interest is definitely peaked. I'm just not sure what the storyline is, and what the deal is with the different doctors. I'm also not sure which season, but hopefully the current one — with David Tennant, am I right? (Mondays are becoming my Brit night, with Doctor Who, My Family, and Jane Eyre.)

  • Veronica Mars season 3 premiere! Seriously, I love Piz. Oddest name ever, but he is adorable and crushing on Veronica. And he plays guitar. And poor Dick. Also, I'm confused about the whole Keith-Kendall-Mr. Casablancas blowup at the end, but anyway...

  • Jane Eyre: Rochester didn't say the whole "my—" and then cut off. He was rougher with Jane when she tried to leave (where in the book he's "sweeter" for lack of a better term) yet they add this romance elsewhere. Hmm. Plus, they had an actual gypsy woman, which detracted from it being Rochester himself. I can understand it, though, because I'm sure with modern audiences it would be too obvious, trying to hide his face and make him look like someone else.

  • I want this book so badly. SO BAD. I don't know if I can wait 'til Christmas...

  • I just rewatched "Roman Holiday." Such a good movie! And I teared up more than usual at the end.

  • I hate my job at the farmer's market. It's just not for me. In the three years I've worked there, I've dreaded going to work every weekend. And now with this new daycare job that I enjoy, it puts it into perspective. I only have 'til the end of the month and then it's over (unless I want to go back in the spring, which I don't — must say no) but now is the busiest time. I hate not having the holidays off — civic holidays and Thanksgiving are crazy. I almost want to quit now, but I couldn't do that to the owner. They need all hands on deck, so to speak... *sigh* One... more... month

  • Just had commencement yesterday night, and, well... I don't like high school. I ever feel like I belng with friends and such, plus it reminds me of my disappointments, i.e. academically. I could have done a lot better. I just can't stand school. I was such a cynic last night, lol — all the speeches with their "we're one big family, going through the same experiences, supporting each other, and now going out into the world" sentimentality seemed so hypocritical. Yeah right. I know high school doesn't amount to much once you're done — and nobody ever stays in touch with high school friends — but I feel so out of it. Like I don't belong anywhere.

  • My old yearbook teacher told me that my cover design is FOR SURE going to be this year's cover. YAY!!!!

    More to come later.

    "I am tired, sir."

He looked at me for a minute.

"And a little depressed," he said. "What about? Tell me."

"Nothing — nothing, sir. I am not depressed."

"But I affirm that you are: so much depressed that a few more words would bring tears to your eyes — indeed, they are there now, shining and swimming; and a bead has slipped from the lash and fallen on to the flag. If I had time, and was not in mortal dread of some prating prig of a servant passing, I would know what all this means. Well, tonight I excuse you... Good-night, my—" He stopped, bit his lip, and abruptly left me.
    — Jane Eyre, ch. 17, p.158

Aw! I was reading this today, and I loved that last part: "Good-night, my—" He stopped, bit his lip, and abruptly left me.

(This is in the middle of the large party that comes to Thornfield Hall, with Blanche Ingram. Jane has realized her love for Rochester, and, of course, Rochester is in love with Jane, but she doesn't know it...)

I've been quickly reading the novel along with watching the miniseries. Quickly, so I may not be getting everything out of it, especially when it comes to Charlotte Brontë's description. But anyway, I love the book, and I've really enjoyed the miniseries!

I agree, more time could have been spent on Jane's childhood. I found it odd that they went from the red room straight to everything being back to normal — they didn't mention her being sick. They also seemed to pass over any of the good things — Bessie, Miss Temple, Lowood being turned around. I love Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson, though both are obviously not plain, but I'm not complaining. I thought the first episode would have gone farther, but it's good that they've put so much in, and Jane and Rochester having time together.

Anyway, that's my academic analysis (humph — yeah right) and I'm looking forward to next week's episode. :D

With my last few posts, you'd think my journal is becoming friends-only. It's not, but some posts shall be for friends' eyes only. As well as come music posts. (Not completely sure.)

Right now I REALLY want BBC! See my icon for reason #1. ;) With all this talk of the new Jane Eyre miniseries, I'm anxious to see it. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD in North America. I read Jane Eyre in grade 11 and loved it, but I've only seen one of the many adaptations starring Cirian Hinds and Samantha Morton. A re-reading of the novel is refreshing me on details (and getting me very angry at the injustices and hypocrisy in the first portion) to tide me over. Anyone at all interested has already check out the BBC Jane Eyre website, but there's the link again, if you'd like. I've also been reading the [info]bronteana blog, syndicated through LJ for easy reading. And Georgie Henley is playing young Jane! Yay! I loved her in "Narnia." So far, I'm really liking what I've been seeing of the new series, with the actress playing Jane Eyre (newcomer Ruth Wilson) and other British actors I recognize. Then again, I'm not usually very critical.

I'm also enjoying watching the miniseries "Our Mutual Friend," &c. )

From what I've gathered, does the BBC make one major classic novel adaptation a year? Here's a list I put together, a vague timeline, if you will: &c. ) If there was one series I should get next, which should it be? I will be asking for P&P for Christmas so I can FINALLY watch it whenever I like, from start to finish, and revel in Colin Firth Darcy-ness, as well as in other things. But I'm wondering if there's something else I should get? Just curious, really. (This is where I would put a poll if I could, but as tyhat it not an option, please comment instead.)

    &c. )

So there's my ramble on everything BBC.
