Meme snagged from [info]elvenjoy but done by just about everyone. ;)

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
So many things! But I'll say I started university which is quite a big thing for me since I was nervous and I'd taken a two year break.

&c. )

Real entry coming soon. I hope you all had wonderful holidays and best wishes for the new year!

I'm a dreamer, which is really accurate... )

I'm planning on writing a real post soon! I've now moved into residence at university which is a little surreal. I really like the campus, and the residence is really nice. It sure is different from Capernwray! But I'm also missing Capernwray and my friends a lot... More to come. ;)

Here are the answers to your questions from this meme.

What is your favorite cuisine? [info]hominygrits
Probably Italian — I love all kinds of pasta.

what is your favorite word to fill in the blank with?
ok that one's lame... what's your favorite song to get stuck in your head!
[info]weazel05
Probably "Mushaboom" by Feist. It was stuck in my head during camp for a few days... :) It always reminds me of Bella and John from Our Mutual Friend

What is your favourite...day of the week? ...boy feature?
[I mean - do you like nice eyes/intelligence/cute smile etc?]
[info]lalumena
Hmmm... Favourite day of the week? That's hard. Probably Saturday... or maybe Sunday. I like the "days off" from school or work.
Boy feature — either the eyes, or sense of humour/smile, if that counts. ;)

what is your favorite item of clothing? :) [info]artic_fox
Definitely shirts... probably sweaters. I just love knitted sweaters. :)

What is your favorite book? [info]elding
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. *sheepish grin* I know that's kind of boring but I just love it. Other favourites include Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen, and Until TomorrowChristy Miller Series) by Robin Jones Gunn.

What is your favourite colour? [info]coconut_458
Light blue.

What's your favorite accesory? [info]penguinsrpals
Ooh, that's hard, because I'm not an accesory kind of girl. I don't usually wear any jewelry, but I prefer necklaces. (I'm wearing one now, actually.)

What is your favorite movie? [info]royalrebel
The latest Pride and Prejudice 2005. I know so many lines off by heart, and Matthew Macfadyen makes me swoon, and I love Jane and Bingley... *sigh* I also love Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.

What is your favorite ending to a story? What is your favorite genre of music? What would be your favorite place in the whole world? [info]princess_mia
Whew, that's a lot. :) Favourite ending — happy ones. Preferably where the hero and heroine are married... I'm not too hard to please, but I need a happy ending!
Favourite genre, hmmm... probably some sort of mix between pop rock... I'm liking indie right now... I don't know what you'd call my music taste, lol.
My favourite place... probably my home. :D I don't know where else would be my favourite... I guess we'll find out how much I like England. ;P

Favorite topping for toast! [info]deadduck008
Ooh, that's easy. A little butter and jam — either raspberry or strawberry. Have some tea with the toast, and it's perfect. Mmmm...

what's your favourite obsession at the moment?
(as all good people need a couple obsessions at once right? ;D)
[info]xo_bodigulpa_ox
When am I not obsessed with something? Lol. Right now the biggest would probably be anything and everything Jane Austen. I mean, I went to the bookstore and came back with two Austen-paraliterature books. Um, I'm still pretty obsessed with Doctor Who right now. Just you wait 'til I see the second season of Robin Hood — watch out! ;D

Feel free to ask me more here. I'll add to the post. :)

Okay, I'll start with the meme. (Snagged from [info]modernelegance.)

Fill in the blank (and I shall answer):

Heather, what is your favorite _________________ ?

I'm curious to see what you guys come up with, but also, I'm bored... ;)

So, um, yesterday I did some shopping — or at least I tried to. I need to do a bit of clothes shopping before I leave because I need some warmer clothes — especially pants. I could not find a single pair of pants that fit me. Nada. Not in womens' size 0s, not in girls sizes 14 or 16. Oi. Even Old Navy, which I have bought all my most recent pairs of pants, has let me down. I think they're making their sizes bigger and bigger — with the few 0s I found, they were too big and way too long. :( This is ridiculous! I have no nice jeans — mine all have holes in them. :(

Does anyone know of a store that has really good petite sizes? Anyone?

This is why I never shop for pants — I hate trying clothes on, and pants are the kind of item that need to fit well. Shirts are easy — a small or extra small usually fits. Pants are just exasperating.

I also need boots, but I can't find any that I like. And have you guys ever seen the knitted boots/slippers? They look really cute and warm, and I thought they'd be perfect for walking around inside the "castle." I just need to find some...

All this shopping is using up my week's pay...

The one thing that brightened up my shopping trip? "I Feel it All" by Feist starting playing in Old Navy — it was great. :D

  • In other news, I am trying to wait patiently for my new Macbook — "trying" being the key word, haha. They said it was supposed to be ready yesterday (Thursday) so I thought I would expect it for today. But it keeps getting delayed, and now it's not even ready for today. I wouldn't mind waiting one more day, expect that a) now I really have to wait the whole weekend, and b) I already took in my old computer to transfer everything over, so now I am without any computer. I am just using my brother's as a last resort, but it feels weird — I can't save anything, I can't make anything, and he could walk in the door any minute and force me off. :/ Oh, well, a weekend without much computer will do me good. And when I do get my new one, I'll probably be on it wa-a-a-ay too much, watching all my favourite videos! I am so excited. Plus, I will have 80 GB of space! That seems like a lot compared to my measley 10 or 13, haha. I debated whether or not I should have splurged for the 120 GB or so, but it would be more efficient to buy an external hardrive (with 320 GB for only $250, instead of spending $200 on only 40 extra gigs) so I didn't.

Here's more news on BBC's new Sense & Sensibility via AustenBlog. I feel lazy just getting all my information from there, but it's quite entertaining reading it from their point of view, snark and all. :)

I'm also really looking forward to this — the BBC is also making a five part miniseries called Cranford Chronicles based on two or three novels by Elizabeth Gaskell. One of them is Cranford but I'm not sure of any other novels that they are using. :/ I'm trying to find out. More news here.
Cranford Chronicles is based on three Gaskell books - Cranford, Mr Harrison's Confessions and My Lady Ludlow.

Her novels Wives and Daughters and North and South were serialised by the BBC in 1999 and 2004 respectively.
But at any rate, I'll definitely be adding those to my reading list! I really love the two I've read (and seen) of Elizabeth Gaskell's novels so far! And I can't wait for this miniseries. It looks like it will be airing this fall, too, which is nice — I thought it was for next year.

ETA: here's another page on the subject. It's also got producer Sue Birtwistle connected to it, so that's encouraging. (She did Pride & Prejudice 1995 and Wives & Daughters.)

Little kids are so cute. I seriously have such a great job. ;)

I've seen this floating around my friends-list, so I thought I'd join in:

    Five cla-a-a-assic films
    Four veronica mars

First, I just thought I'd plug [info]belle_17's Disneylicious entry, because it was too fun. And it includes squees over Ella and Char. :P

    Next, a music meme:

    From [info]ashleyr388:

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?

    So, here's how it works:
    1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
    2. Put it on shuffle
    3. Press play
    4. For every question, type the song that's playing
    5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
    6. Don't lie and try to pretend your cool...just type it in man!

    &c. )

So that was interesting. I'm amazed I didn't get more Disney songs and such.

Today we celebrated my brother's 17 birthday. It was nice — we had Harvey's (burger's and fries), as per his request. :) Then presents. I got him a couple DVDs he wanted (Fight Club Special Edition and Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire). I think we're watching Harry Potter tonight, as my parents haven't seen it yet. I'm excited for all the David Tennant in it, lol! I knew he was in "Doctor Who" when I had seen it originally, but now I have a new love for him and will appreciate him even more.

Relient K's "I Celebrate The Day" was just on, and it has some great lyrics:
The first time that you opened your eyes, did you realize that you would be my Saviour? And the first breath that left your lips, did you know that it would change this world forever? And I celebrate the day that you were born to die so I could one day pray for you to save my life.

Relient K songs have great lyrics, some songs randomly funny and others wonderfully poignant.

    First, a personality quiz I found through [info]modernelegance: &c. )

If you are writing a sequel to "Pride & Prejudice" and trying (unsuccessfully) to imitate Austen's style, would you not at least spell colour in the British spelling as opposed to the American "color"? It sticks out like a sore thumb, especially when the authors are trying so hard to make it sound like Regency English.

Caroline Bingley would in no way be happy that (while she is staying with Jane & Charles) the Bennets come for a visit, as well as Wickham and Lydia. She would be horrified, not amused or pleased. And the Bennet family's honour being disgraced again? By Mrs. Philips being thrown in jail for stealing lace? It's a little ridiculous...

I'm still here! I actually didn't leave for camp yet, but I haven't been on because I wasn't allowed on the computer... (My parents weren't thrilled with my procrastinating and me being on the computer all the time...)

First of all, I just wanted to do this meme that I've seen floating around and I've been tagged to do by at least one person. Ya know, "List seven ten songs you're into right now." &c. )

More "Love Comes Sofly," comes I'm really into the whole series right now. :P I saw the first couple movies (finally — but did I mention that already?) and they're really good. I bought the third movie at the video store, too, as it was a cheap previously viewed copy. Unfortunately, these movies only seem to be available in full screen :(. The third movie was good, and I love Erin Cottrell as the new Missie — she's a better actress and more interesting and, well, outgoing, I guess. I was just disappointed with the chemistry between her and Logan Bartholemew (SP? too lazy to check). They didn't fit for some reason, but part of it is because she seems older — I'm sure the actress is older than him. Oh, well, it was still good. And Willie is absolutely gorgeous... and they were still cute together. I'm currently reading the third book, and I picked up the fourth book for $5! Score.

Again, I got Plumb's new CD, "Chaotic Resolve," which is really good. It's just different than "Candycoatedwaterdrops" — more edge and a little less pop. I also discovered a new Christian book series called "The Austen Series"! I was so excited, lol. Debra White Smith has taken every Austen book and rewritten them into modern times. I picked up "Amanda" based on, you guessed it, "Emma." However, I'm a little disappointed so far. The style is driving me crazy, as it doesn't flow very well and sometimes there's too much description. It's as if what is supposed to be adding to the narrative is taking away from it. I'm still hopeful it will get better, though I don't think I'll be buying any more of the books...

Onto more "serious" things, I now have a job for the fall! (I don't know if I've said this before, but I'm taking a year off from school to work and prepare for college, and just taking a break from school.) A friend of my family called wondering if I'd be interested in working part-time at her home-run daycare. She said four people had suggested me! Anyway, the whole thing has worked out wonderfully, and I'm looking forward to what this next year will bring. She was so excited that she had found someone, as she was really stressed about it, and needed the right person. And this job was literally just given to me!

So now I'm getting ready to leave for camp for six weeks. I leave on Saturday, and still haven't done a whole lot in way of packing, but it's hard to pack clothes too early, anyway.

I hope you are all doing well, and have a wonderful summer! Hopefully I'll be back on by the end of August/early September... I miss not being on everday, lol. :D

    P.S.

    Happy (belated) Canada Day!

    Physical — 99%
    Emotional — 97%
    Intellectual — 98%
    Total — 98%

I have a strong urge to watch "Ella Enchanted" right now. Bad change of the storyline and all. *sigh*

I really need to get back to reality. I think it's good that I'll be away at camp for six weeks straight, lol.

You're not offended by the term, "Homo Milk."

You understand the phrase, "Could you pass me a serviette, I just dropped my poutine, on the chesterfield."

You eat chocolate bars, not candy bars.

    You drink pop, not soda.

You know what a Mickey and 2-4 mean.

You don't care about the fuss with Cuba. It's a cheap place to go for your holidays, with good cigars.

You know that a pike is a type of fish, not part of a highway.

You drive on a highway, not a freeway.

You have Canadian Tire money in your kitchen drawers.

You know that Casey and Finnegan were not part of a Celtic musical group.

You get excited whenever an American television show mentions Canada.

You brag to Americans that: Shania Twain, Jim Carrey, Celine Dion and many more are Canadians.

You know that the C.E.O. of American Airlines is a Canadian!

You know what a touque is.

You know that the last letter of the English alphabet is always pronounced "Zed" not "Zee".

You understand the Labatt Blue commercials.

You know how to pronounce and spell "Saskatchewan."

You perk up when you hear the theme song from "Hockey Night in Canada."

You were in grade 12, not the 12th grade.

"Eh?" is a very important part of your vocabulary and more polite than, "Huh?"

Winter. Whenever you want it. And then some.

There's German food, Italian food, Chinese food, Armenian food, American food, but NO Canadian food.

You call a "mouse" a "moose".

Contests run by anyone other than the government have "skill-testing questions" that winners must answer correctly before they can claim a prize.

Everything is labelled in English and French.

Milk comes in plastic bags as well as cartons and plastic jugs.

    Mountain Dew has no caffeine.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Canada.

I thought this was a little funny, and better than the "Ontario" meme...
