Who: husband and wife duo

Sound Style: indie, alternative folk pop...

If you're a fan of: Nickel Creek, The Weepies, The Hush Sound
(I find he sounds like Jack Johnson and she sounds like Stephanie Smith from the P&P 2003 soundtrack)

How I found them: Of all the ways, it was actually Facebook that brought them to my attention! (Because I've listed Nickel Creek as one of my favourite groups).

Sample: Nashville [hxxp → http]

Anything else: This video of them singing "God of Wonders" with Third Day. (I always get excited when favourite musicians are also Christians.)

Their latest album out is called "This Isn't a Dream" with a single of the same name, which I love. (That song actually reminds me of The Hush Sound!) I'm hoping it'll become available on Amazon.ca soon but NoiseTrade is offering an EP of their first album, so that's holding me over, as well as the songs on their site and MySpace.

I highly recommend checking them out, and if you like what you hear, NoiseTrade.com is offering a free legal download of portion of "A Prelude" in exchange for recommending it to five friends. I think they deserve getting their name out. :)

On another note, would anyone be willing to be on my list for Noise Trade? If there are any good albums that I think are worth checking out? Would anyone be willing to give me their email address? I promise I won't spam and it won't be very often at all.

Where Heather really wants to use subject titles like a Victorian novel (and [info]lalumena!)
I guess to be original I could use "In which" instead of "where" — from what I remember, all the chapter titles in Vanity Fair follow that pattern. Anyway, Charlotte, not that this is anything new, but I like the idea. ;)

I will try to make this short and sweet but there are a lot of random things to share!

New layout!
Well, since the past week or so. I love how the colours in the layout match so well with the background — I didn't touch a thing. And the Marie Antoinette icon (by [info]dragonclouds) fits perfectly — soft and spring-like. It just makes me happy! (Layout by [info]knotloved and background by [info]appletooth.)

- I'm very tempted to have a Jane Austen movie marathon — but not her adaptations. Rather, the "biographies" — Becoming Jane and Miss Austen Regrets would be extremely fun together, methinks. This comes from my finally finishing Just Jane by Nancy Moser, a fictional autobiography/novel. It was very nice, starting from her early twenties (with Tom LeFroy, thankfully a minor event) to her blossoming success and writing of Persuasion. It is bizarre knowing how things go, though. I liked learning more about her family. Another wonderful novel is The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen by Syrie James. It's much more fictional and focuses on a smaller part of Jane's life (and "possible" love affair). I recommend it! I've also got Cassandra's Sister by Veronica Bennett still sitting on my bookshelf at home, waiting to be read. Yet one can never have too many Jane Austen-related books!

Oh, dear, I'm failing miserably with length already. Etsy purchase, Music, Blogs, &c. )

This bring me to a question: Does anyone know if you can add RSS feeds to your LJ friends list in any way? I know that someone can created a syndicated LJ account that will post there blog here on LJ, but is there anyway to incorporate other blogs onto my f-list? I'd love a way to easily see updates but I'm not going to constantly be checking these individually.

- I've crawled out from the rock under which I've been hiding! I've started watching Twilight. &c. )

I do believe that's it. I've got some real life updates but I'll post those separately — there's enough here as it is. (That'll make you think twice about wishing I ever updated more — not that any of you do, but in theory...)

Fiction Family - When She's Near from ATO Records on Vimeo.

Their debut CD comes out January 20th... And I sound like a commercial, but you guys should get it!! Jon Foreman and Sean Watkins, Switchfoot and Nickel Creek = :D

Hey, maybe this will count as my first "8 days of things that make me happy" entry. Everyone on my friends-list has been sharing and I want to as well. Or maybe the first thing is that I finished one exam today (Judaism) so there's only one more to go! No, I'll save that for tomorrow when I'm DONE... or Wednesday since the exam is late tomorrow night.

I just want it to be Christmas break already. My brain is fried. :P

Me = terrible at posting. I read my friends list regularly but there's not much to post about. :S

Right now life is probably about the same for me as it is for a lot of you — craziness it finishing up university term work and finals, and getting ready for Christmas. I'm so excited, though! I finally get to go and stay home this week. An entire week in my home bed — ah, luxury. :D

Not that I've been away from home lots. I've been home practically every weekend, so I can't complain. Still, I'm so glad for the break from school and this campus. I love it here, but it's small and I don't get out much, and break = very good.

As of this morning I'm done my crazy week of tests and papers. I'm halfway finished my courses for the term. Now I only have my writing assignments to hand in in a couple of days (speaking of which, anyone feel like looking them over if I post? Maybe I will. At the very least you might be interested in my short non-fiction stories about me, haha) — as well as my two exams on the 15th and 16th, Judaism and Greek Mythology respectively. I have to admit, I'll be sad to be finished those courses. They've been interesting.

BUT YAY I'M ALMOST DONE MY FIRST TERM OF UNIVERSITY, I'LL HAVE A FULL 1.5 CREDITS, AND CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE!

I still have so much to do. I've made some homemade Christmas cards, but nowhere near enough for all the people I want to send them to. I also have to get presents for everyone. I've got most of my mom's, but I still want to get her one other thing. Everyone else in my family is elusive about what they want. Except Bryan — all he wants is "The Lion King II: Simba's Pride." Of course, Disney is stupid and it's not in stores. :S Any suggestions? Any tips for Ebay/etc?

In other exciting news: Fiction Family has released their first single! And their CD is being released January 20th!!!!

Who are Fiction Family, you ask? None other than Jon Foreman from Switchfoot and Sean Watkins from Nickel Creek. What could be more amazing than that? I've been looking forward to this for ages, back when they only had a "coming soon" website. You can go to their website now to get a free download of their song "When She's Near." It's really sweet and catchy. I've listened to it at least ten times since yesterday.

I just bought my first songs from iTunes, which is a little intimidating, heehee. I don't like buying virtual songs, because if I pay the money I want to have a physical object, you know? Plus iTunes is so strict with where you can play songs, but anyway... Bethany Joy Galeotti has been releasing so many great songs, but unfortunately, they're only mp3-released. It's only $1 a song, plus I want to support her (and help her get a flipping record deal, come on, people!) so I got the duet "I Want Something That I Want" she sang with Grace Potter. (I also got the other Grace Potter song for the full "album".) Bethany's got the most amazingly pretty, natural, full voice. I honestly can't wait 'til she makes a real CD that I can go out and buy and physically have. I hope it happens soon.

Hope you're all doing well! Have a great holiday season and don't get too stressed. ;)

So I've looked up the nominees for this year's Junos, and it's quite exciting. Feist is nominated for four categories, I believe: album of the year (The Reminder), artist of the year, pop album of the year (The Reminder), single of the year ("1 2 3 4"), and songwriter of the year. I hope she wins! Plus, she's performing at the ceremony. I will definitely be tuned in.

And the biggest and best surprise? RELIENT K IS NOMINATED AT THE JUNOS!!!!!! YAY!! See, I should probably explain that the Junos are the Canadian music awards (I guess like our equivalent of the Grammys?) So it's unexpected, but I think there are at least a few members of Relient K that are Canadian — they've just moved to the States. So I really, really hope they win! They're nominated in the Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year category for "Five Score and Seven Years Ago." Such a good album. ;)

The Junos take place this Sunday, April 6. For more info, click here.

Visit Switchfoot.com for the new song by Relient K featuring Matt Theissan from Relient K! It's called "Rebuild" and it's to help Habitat for Humanity. It's great if you can make a donation, financial or time, but it's not necessary.

Relient K and Switchfoot! It's like "Deathbed" haha.

First, there are a couple of songs that are stuck in my head... &c. )

Also, I just realized today that along with my extra user icons, and the ability to make polls, this paid account allows me to have a real custom mood theme! Hooray! So I've installed this lovely Rory/Jess theme made by [info]euterpeslullaby at [info]crackified. There's bunches of different themes, including a few Doctor Who themes, and one of Margaret and Thornton from North and South. I picked Rory & Jess for old times sake, and now I really want to watch seasons two and three of Gilmore Girls! And how fun it will be to see Chad Michael Murray as Tristan — I'm used to seeing him as Lucas Scott from OTH.

I've also got a poll for you... ;)

I am waiting for my library's copy of the 1999 Mansfield Park so I can see that again. I saw it ages ago but I really can't remember much. I'm not expecting a lot, but we'll see... Has anyone seen the 1983 miniseries? Is it worth watching if I can get my hands on a copy? I admit, I'm not crazy about the old stage productions. (I couldn't get through the 80s version of P&P...)

YAY! This makes me happy. If you're wondering, he also composed the score for North & South and the latest Persuasion. I just hope they release the music this time! Which, let's face it, is rather unlikely. :(

This song just started playing on my iTunes — "The Space in Between Us" by Building 429. It's great for Robin & Marian! And it matches with the wallpaper I just made. How perfectly coincidental. :D

Lyrics )

It's so much easier finding songs for Robin & Marian than Catherine and Mr. Tilney! Catherine and Tilney are too happy. Angst works better for fanmixes and videos, apparently.

With, yes, another Feist song. (I couldn't help it — the music just fit the best out of the other options...)

Anyway, I hope you like it. It's not completely in chronological order, but I hope it makes sense. It pretty much continues where my last video left off. John and Bella are newlyweds living in their little Blackheath Cottage. :)

(Apparently Mortimer Lightwood is their only neighbour, and a frequent visitor, haha. I just wish it was a different main picture, not Mortimer and Bella. :P)

You guys, I am way too excited about this, but I have made my own music video! It's so cool!

Can you guess who it's about? I guess there are a few options, but you won't be surprised to hear it's about Bella & John, eh?

Seriously, those two are so cute at the end. I know the ending is kind of abrubt — I was working in chronilogical order so as not to drive myself crazy, and I ran out of room for more clips — but I just had to leave it like that because it fit well, and they are adorable.

Anyway, the song is called "Secret Heart" by Feist, and was inspired by [info]blancwene in a way, because I got the song from her Bella/John fanmix. Plus, she's the one who introduced me to Our Mutual Friend in the first place! (Thank you!!)

I'd love to hear what you guys think! I tried to fit the transitions with the music, and for the most part it worked well, but some parts are a little off. :/ I might also go back and do a more complete version with more important clips, but right now it focuses on the couple before they get married.

Did I mention how excited I am? I've loved watching all these videos on YouTube and now I can add to the collection! And Bella & John need lots of love. ;D

While I'm waiting for my new computer (which should be coming in three hours or hopefully less), here are some videos that are great!

First, set to "Holding Out for a Hero," a video with practically all the best leading men from the past few years.

And I've found a couple awesome Northanger Abbey videos. Seriously, NA has got the best videos. &c. )

ETA: And here's another nice one, featuring all three of the new ITV adaptations. &c. )

Ok, a Nickel Creek SONG is on TV. It's crazy!

It's "Tomorrow is a Long Time," and it played on the show "What About Brian." So that's not a big show, but still — MY FAVE BAND which nobody else seems to know about (in real life) is on TV. I heard the intro notes, did a double take, and yes, yes, it was what I thought it was, lol.

I need to stop now. I'm obviously bored if I get so excited about something like this.

P.S. Nickel Creek rocks.

ETA: Ohmygoodness, now they're playing a game like Taboo and Brian doesn't know who Jane Austen is! Of course I got it right away. :P

I have no idea why I'm watching this, but with Nickel Creek and Jane Austen... it's looking good, lol.

I've been browsing through YouTube and all the music videos (because fan videos are love). More specifically, I've been looking for Robin Hood videos and making a mini directory of sorts at the fanlisting. At the moment, it's mostly Robin/Marian videos. *sheepish grin*

I came across a video and I recognized the song immediately, though it was a surprise — "Lost Without You" by Delta Goodrem. Actually, I know the version by Jaci Velasquez, so on another note I was surprised that it was sung by two singers. It's not often you come across a Jaci Velasquez song, right?

Well, here's the Robin/Marian video: &c. )

Then, to my delight, I found a Margaret/Thornton video with the same song sung by Jaci Velasquez! &c. )

I was struck by how perfect this song is for Robin and Marian — well, for both couples actually. It has inspired me to make a fanmix for one of my fave couples, so that song will be on there. Here are some of the lyrics:
I know I can be a little stubborn sometimes
You might say a little righteous and too proud
I was looking for a way to compromise
Thinking maybe I could work things out

I thought I had all the answers
Never givin' in
But You loved me all along
And I admit that I was wrong

All I know is I'm lost without You
I'm not gonna lie
I could never be strong without You
I need You by my side

If I ever thought we'd never be together
'Cause of all my foolish pride
Don't know what I'd do
I'm lost without You

More?

It's perfect for Margaret and Thornton, too, no? I also love the song "It is You (I Have Loved" by Dana Glover. Perfect for R/M — from either Robin's or Marian's points of view. And Bella and John, as a matter of fact, like this video (it's just a slideshow of pictures, but the song is great, it's one of the only OMF videos!)
But now I know just who you are
And I know you hold my heart
Finally this is where I belong
It is you I have loved all along

It's no more mystery
It is finally clear to me
You're the home my heart searched for so long
And it is you I have loved all along

More?

And you've got to see this video of Guy of Gisborne — it's great! I think I have a thing for using old fifties/sixties songs.

I'm afraid my attention span has been lacking lately — I have no focus to even read through all my friends list and give though-out comments. I apologize. I'm in that kind of a funk where I never want to do anything, at least not something productive. :/

First of all, Happy December! ;) I can't believe it's December already. I love this time of year, with all the aniticipation of Christmas, and the festive music and decorations... It's almost sad when Christmas comes, because then it's all over. If you know what I mean. &c. )

On another note, I am in love with Nickel Creek's music at the moment. I have all of their CDs (3) on the computer, but I'd like to physicall have on, too. They've got a "Best of" album which looks perfect, and it comes with a DVD! Here are a couple of faves:
Please change hxxp to http.

The Lighthouses Tale
- This song is so pretty, but so sad. I had tears in my eyes when I took in the words.

The Fox
- an upbeat, folk-song sounding piece

Beauty and the Mess
- a bit different than the first two, edgier
They've got such a unique sound — so pretty and richly "old fashioned" but at the same time it's fresh and modern, too. Nickel Creek = love

The flu is now going around in the daycare. I've been fine, but a few kids have caught it. Yesterday, one little boy threw up just before lunch (though he seemed fine in the morning). Two others stayed home today. Also, we were at full capacity yesterday with 13 kids. Today was nice and quiet with only 8. (That's not just because of illness).

Tonight is the Ladies' Advent Tea at my church. My mom is in charge of organizing it all, so she has been very busy as of late, but it always turns out wonderfully. I'm going this year, and looking forward to it. My social life has been lacking, and a night out (dressed up in my pretty red "forties/fifties" dress) with tea and desserts sounds heavenly. There is also a guest speaker, special music, and the singing of Christmas carols.

Oh, and I did I mention there's a very real possibility of me going to England next year? I know I said it's a vague deram, but now there's a Bible school that my mom knows of that I could attend. It just seems perfect, because when I think of staying here and applying for schools, I just get overwhelmed and sad, but the thought of spending the year in England, studying in a Christian environment, making friends from all over — it's so terrifying-ly exciting! I mentioned it at my weekly girls' bible study, and Melanie (on of the leaders) got so excited for me! So I'm praying about that. I know it has to be all God, and I want to make sure I'm not going for the wrong reasons, because if it's not supposed to happen, going there could be really bad. But I think it's such a great opportunity to grow.

I suppose that's it — I didn't realize I had so much to mention. Oh, and a little "P.S." — be sure to vote at BBC Drama — Best of 2006! *Cough* Robin Hood *Cough, cough* Jane Eyre *cough* David Tennant. (Plus, I love that the banner has David Tennant, Ruth Wilson, and Jonas Armstrong! That, and how N&S won every category in 2004, and Doctor Who in 2005).

I just found this tonight, and thought I'd share. :) It's the song in the trailer for the recent Jane Eyre miniseries. You can watch the trailer at YouTube here. And there's another one here, and here.

The song is called, "You Never Know" by Goldfrapp. www.sendspace.com/file/gzm2rm

Also, here's a fan video of Jane Eyre featuring the song.

Enjoy. :D

I'm still here! I actually didn't leave for camp yet, but I haven't been on because I wasn't allowed on the computer... (My parents weren't thrilled with my procrastinating and me being on the computer all the time...)

First of all, I just wanted to do this meme that I've seen floating around and I've been tagged to do by at least one person. Ya know, "List seven ten songs you're into right now." &c. )

More "Love Comes Sofly," comes I'm really into the whole series right now. :P I saw the first couple movies (finally — but did I mention that already?) and they're really good. I bought the third movie at the video store, too, as it was a cheap previously viewed copy. Unfortunately, these movies only seem to be available in full screen :(. The third movie was good, and I love Erin Cottrell as the new Missie — she's a better actress and more interesting and, well, outgoing, I guess. I was just disappointed with the chemistry between her and Logan Bartholemew (SP? too lazy to check). They didn't fit for some reason, but part of it is because she seems older — I'm sure the actress is older than him. Oh, well, it was still good. And Willie is absolutely gorgeous... and they were still cute together. I'm currently reading the third book, and I picked up the fourth book for $5! Score.

Again, I got Plumb's new CD, "Chaotic Resolve," which is really good. It's just different than "Candycoatedwaterdrops" — more edge and a little less pop. I also discovered a new Christian book series called "The Austen Series"! I was so excited, lol. Debra White Smith has taken every Austen book and rewritten them into modern times. I picked up "Amanda" based on, you guessed it, "Emma." However, I'm a little disappointed so far. The style is driving me crazy, as it doesn't flow very well and sometimes there's too much description. It's as if what is supposed to be adding to the narrative is taking away from it. I'm still hopeful it will get better, though I don't think I'll be buying any more of the books...

Onto more "serious" things, I now have a job for the fall! (I don't know if I've said this before, but I'm taking a year off from school to work and prepare for college, and just taking a break from school.) A friend of my family called wondering if I'd be interested in working part-time at her home-run daycare. She said four people had suggested me! Anyway, the whole thing has worked out wonderfully, and I'm looking forward to what this next year will bring. She was so excited that she had found someone, as she was really stressed about it, and needed the right person. And this job was literally just given to me!

So now I'm getting ready to leave for camp for six weeks. I leave on Saturday, and still haven't done a whole lot in way of packing, but it's hard to pack clothes too early, anyway.

I hope you are all doing well, and have a wonderful summer! Hopefully I'll be back on by the end of August/early September... I miss not being on everday, lol. :D

P.S.

Happy (belated) Canada Day!

Ooh, look, my first fanmix!

Well, at first I was going to make a mix for Lizzy & Darcy, but since lots of people have already made that, I thought, why not make one for one of my other favourite couples? So Jane and Bingley it was!

I hope you enjoy the songs I chose — I thought they fit, and they're some of my favourites. :)
